by Bibhu Padhi (June 2016)
They wait with a stillness—
these words and their
those garden lizards, their
watchful wait for their prey
for a long minute, on the rough
stone wall, under the warm shade
of a banana leaf on this
late winter day. Over time
and questions, your
thought of snakes die.
They look your way,
their eyes fluently meeting
your eye, before
turning on you again.
The games continue, hover
above the raw stone
and the well-polished keys.
Throughout the day.
