Great Inventors

by Robert Bové (Oct. 2006)

Otis, Carrier, McDonald

I go out for lunch each day,

winter or summer, have my shake

and fries, go back up

to the 15th the same way.

Lister, Edison, Marconi

I like to leave when the cleaning crew

is wrapping up for the evening.

Their boom box norteñas dance me

out into darkened streets.

Zeppelin, Goodyear, Doubleday

The bar is too noisy

to hear the game on TV

but I don’t mind at all.

That view of bright field

from blimp at night—

Yankees still playing in October.
