Oh Mr Paulson

Sent in by PolicyWatcher:

Oh Mr Paulson, can I have a billion too?
With food and gas bills rising, the mortgage overdue.
I know it seems quite communist, giving money to the broke
But those you gave to lately – well it’s got beyond a joke.

I bought my house two years ago, they said “Now just sign here,
The value COULD go down of course, but you really shouldn’t fear.
Why bankers always own their homes, and look at what they earn
And surely you trust anyone with money there to burn”.

Oh Mr Paulson, can I have a billion too?
With food and gas bills rising, the mortgage overdue.
A Hundred Percent Mortgage is now treated as a sin,
The numbers that the banks have reached – well where do I begin

Exactly where my money is, I do not understand,
But at thirty-two times leverage, it’s clearly out of hand.
And those at fault are “critical”, you say
- “too big to fail”
I really do not comprehend how they stay out of jail.

Oh Mr Paulson, can I have a billion too?
With food and gas bills rising, the mortgage overdue.
I promise I’ll invest it well, and not upon a horse;
Although as Wall Street’s gambling shows, it’s just par for the course.

They say it’s all gone global, that the Euros feel the pinch
The Japanese and Chinese will no longer give an inch
This wonderful high finance where huge profits reach a few
Did you ever stop to wonder why they won’t reach me and you.

Oh Mr Paulson, can I have a billion too?
With food and gas bills rising, the mortgage overdue.
I know I’m not a banker, I’m not one of your wunch,
But those that you’ve been helping – are completely out to lunch.

With Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and Lehman brothers too
With Merrill Lynch and AIG we’re really in the stew,
They’ve asked you for a hand-out; seven hundred billion bucks
Yet they want to keep their bonuses, the selfish bastard f***s.

Oh Mr Paulson, can I have a billion too?
The Chinese won’t invest in me, they’ve spent it all on you,
Your boss there in the White House – he must be feeling blue
In just another few weeks
more – he loses his home too.
