The Metaphoric and Metonymic Poles

Promised in Paradise are the 72 virgins, or possibly, if you do not join the gang ganging up on Luxenberg, raisins. It is the boys who are "pearl-like." Perhaps in Hilali's view the simile applies only to boys, who are "pearl-like," while for girls only the metaphor is appropriate: they are not pearl-like but are "pearls."
