It isnt the Muslim lobby that puts a strain on American Israel relations or the way Israel is percieved. The hope was that supporting israel would mean expanding democracy religious freedom and western values in the middle east.
Yet the symbol on their flag is a religious symbol, the rabbis weild similiar power to the clerics in Iran and if you are not jewish in Israel you run in SERIOUS limitations. As far as I know only religious marriage is possible, if an arab wants to marry an jewish woman, he has to do so abroad.
Right now the developments in Israel are frustrating to say the least. Maybe the high expectations were due to wrongly assume that all jews are like those in America. However it is still the best option in the middle east and we can only hope that jewish immigration from countries like America will steer Israel to resemble more America rather than Iran.
