He speaks of the college years as an island of contemplation, a time to ponder the �great questions� before the student must enter the daily grind of work and worry, the world of adult responsibility.
Bah, what humbug. College students spend their days drinking, idling and rutting, not Contemplating Great Questions. If they think at all it is to ponder where they will next gratify their empty stomachs and aching glands.
Even if one accepted the view that "a time to ponder great questions" was desirable, the question would arise whether it is also desirable to pay $50,000 a year and to acquire a mountain of debt for this privilege.
