Talking about Apologies Bookmark and Share

YNet news:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announces Israel will not apologize to Turkey, despite request by US, which seeks to strengthen ties with Ankara in wake of Syria crisis. Erdogan: Bilateral relations won't improve without apology.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that Israel will not apologize to Turkey over the 2010 flotilla incident, despite an earlier demand by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to do so.

Clinton spoke with Netanyahu, asking Israel to apologize to Turkey for killing nine of its citizens aboard the Gaza-bound Mavi Marmara ship in May 2010. However, Netanyahu made it clear that given the current situation in the Middle East, Israel will not issue an apology.

Leo Rennert writes:

It's mind-boggling that Israel should apologize for a violent clash aboard the main flotilla vessel that was precipitated by Turkish goons with ties to terrorist groups who brutally attacked and beat Israeli commandos trying to block the ship from reaching Gaza.  Yes, some of these Turkish provocateurs got killed, but it was their instigation of violent attacks  that caused the commandos to defend themselves at close quarters.  Several Israeli commandos were badly injured, clubbed to within an inch of their lives.  The other vessels in the flotilla responded peacefully to Israel's blockade of Gaza and were detoured with their cargo to an Israeli port.

If anyone should apologize, it's Turkey.  But Erdogan is playing to his domestic Isalmist base and wants Israel to crawl for forgiveness.  Clinton, in turn, wants Turkey to be the main player against Assad's brutal repression in Syria, having decided that, as usual, Obama wants to lead from the rear.

Clinton's pressures and threats against Israel were entirely uncalled for.   Israel was the victim of this incident, not the perpetrator.

Instead of demanding apologies from Israel for not being a  dhimmi and resisting the Jihad what about Hillary Clinton demanding:

 That Turkey apologise for the Armenian genocide;

That Muslims apologise for their Jihad against all "non-Muslim"  "kuffar" and requiring that they promise to stop Jihad  and never do it again?
