The Future is Halal

From the BBC:

An early morning call from Malaysia. It's an old friend enquiring about London's best halal hotel.

Enthused by the coverage of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics and Mo Farah's double gold wins, he has decided to visit London with his family as soon as Ramadan finishes this month.

He would like to stay in a Muslim-friendly hotel, do I have any suggestions?

I ask a few friends and search some Muslim websites - only to draw a blank. The closest London can offer is a vegetarian-friendly hotel. But it's not just the assurance of halal food that my friend is hoping for.

He'd like to go somewhere which is considerate of his family's other needs as Muslims, such as guidance on finding the direction of Mecca inside the hotel room for prayer times, alcohol-free dining areas, perhaps separate spa facilities for men and women...

The BBC has long ago submitted.

Articles like this, which are supposed to 'familiarise' us with Islam, and the fatalist ascendancy of Islam, and are written in a kind of easy going, lifestyle supplement manner, with a supposedly benign tone - it actually does more to frighten non Muslims, than even the most strident dawah from the usual bigots. Because this is sinister, menacing, like a cut-throat grinning at you. It chills the blood of the non Muslims reading it. The BBC takes on that sinister tone too. There is no way Islam can be whitewashed. It takes it scent everywhere.

Someone tell the BBC that the correct response to this person's request is that there are no hotels in the UK prepared to cater to his whims and tantrums and to take himself to some placid and peaceful and typical muslim country to desport himself - Syria, for example.
