During World War I, T. S. Eliot taught for a while at the High Wycombe Grammar School.

On April 17, 1941, Al Bowlly sang in High Wycombe (then still known as Wycombe, or Chipping Wycombe) and, though offered a place to stay for the night, decided to return to his flat in London. That night a German parachute bomb fell on Jermyn Street and killed him in his bed. You can read about it, while listening to him sing, right here.
