 I have read

this speech many times and it has always moved me greatly. I was told that he spoke completely from his heart without notes. The Corps must have sensed the enormity of the moment. 

Today, November 2012, I believe every officer in the US military should read his speech again. It is sobering and cleansing to the spirit.
