A former physics teacher — Islamic Physics or regular physics, with all those Jewish names that keep uncomfortably coming up? — in Mosul, now assumes the mantle of the man who assumed the mantle of the Prophet.

Inspired by reading about this physics scholar, I skipped over to a MOOC at EdX and signed up to learn a bit of astrophysics. I was five minutes into it (it’s in French because I am more interested in learning French than astrophysics, quite honestly) when the teacher drew the symbol for the earth: a circle with a cross in it. I doubt Haji Iman agrees that this symbolizes Christ’s dominion over the earth.
