Alberta Statehood: My Recent Interview with Rachel Parker

By Geoffrey Clarfield from Jeffrey Rath’s substack

Eastern Canadians have a tendency to misread Western Canadians and Western Canada. It is like the two sides of Belgium.
I believe that it is quite possible that in their quiet Western Canadian cowboy way, they may secede from the Dominion of Canada.
After all, the Province of Quebec has worked out all the political strategies and legal precedents that give them a “close to state” status.
If Alberta left then there would be three Canada’s left, the Maritimes which would cut a deal, Quebec which would become as independent as Greenland, Ontario “stuck in the middle” and the rest of the West which would either go hippy independent Pacific or reluctantly join Alberta.
Young people forget the lesson that baby boomers learnt from the fall of the Berlin wall and the dissolution of the Soviet Union, that is a country cannot hold together if its citizens do not believe in it.
I can tell you from “lived experience” that despite the sudden flag waving, Canadians do not believe in their country.

I recently sat down with Rachel Parker to discuss what’s quickly becoming one of the most talked-about political movements in Alberta: our push for independence and the possibility of statehood with the U.S.

In the interview, I laid out the case for why Alberta needs to break free from the grip of Eastern Canadian mismanagement. . .

I won’t sugarcoat it: this movement has momentum. The viral traction of this idea proves that citizens of Alberta are sick and tired of being second-class citizens. If Alberta were independent, we’d be one of the wealthiest energy hubs in the world. But instead, we’re stuck footing the bill for politicians that treats us like a colonial cash cow.

If you haven’t seen the interview yet, watch it here.

And if you believe in Alberta’s right to determine its own destiny, now is the time to get involved. The fight is just beginning.
