Apt, Vaucluse, France: knife attacker shouting “Allah Akbar” in a supermarket, injures two

Yesterday evening, Saturday 25th January at A man who was already under survailance for his known radicalism entered a supermarket in Apt in the department of Vaucluse in the southeastern French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur.  Yelling “Allah akbar” he wielded a knife and attacked a customer at the checkout, stabbing him in the face and hiting him. A security guard was also wounded while subduing the attacker, according to the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office (Pnat). They were taken to hosital where their injuries are not life-threatening.

The attacker has French nationality, is aged 32 and has a criminal record for violence, criminal association and manufacture of explosives. He is listed in the File of Alerts for the Prevention of Radicalization of a Terrorist Character (la prévention de la radicalisation à caractère terroriste – FSPRT) and is also being monitored for psychiatric disorders. He was taken into custody after his arrest.

The matter is being investigated by the office of the National Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor for ““attempted murder in connection with a terrorist enterprise, terrorist criminal association with a view to crimes of attacks on persons”
