Arson attack leaves Telford car in flames days after Tommy Robinson’s vehicle ‘blown up outside hotel’
From the Birmingham Mail and the Shropshire Star
A fifth car fire in Telford in just over a week has been confirmed as “deliberate” Crews were called out to the blaze at Barnes Corner, Leegomery, on Thursday night. Nobody was hurt.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire Investigation called out confirmed deliberate ignition. If you have any information contact Telford Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800555111 anonymously.
West Mercia Police have been contacted for a comment. The force confirmed earlier this week ‘a number of incidents’ had taken place in the area, including criminal damage and arson. Investigations into the incidents are ongoing, it said.
It comes after arsonists are alleged to have ‘blown up’ far-right activist Tommy Robinson’s car outside a hotel on Sunday. In a live stream broadcast online, Robinson stood outside a Telford police station as he said he was the victim of an arson attack.
Robinson – whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon – believes he is being targeted ahead of his new documentary, which is being released in the US later this month.
