A Man Walks

by Michael Shindler (May 2024)

Cypresses —Vincent van Gogh, 1889

A man walks to his grave
Past the cypresses east of Eden
And the blue hills.

He sings a bit of a song:

‘— And brother, dear brother,
Pick me plums in the kingdom of doubt
Before the darkness comes
And the stars come out.’
