Austria stabbing latest: Boy, 14, dies after knife attack in Villach leaves four wounded. Ahmad G said to have shouted Allahu Akbar

The English language press is repeating the usual bland statements about not knowing the motives, while the biggest newspaper in Austria, Österreich, is quite  blunt about an obvious terror motive. Ahmad G made the ISIS style tahwid finger and is said to have shouted Allahu Akbar.

From the Independent.

14-year-old boy has been killed after a man stabbed five people at random in Austria.

Authorities said the suspect – a 23-year-old Syrian national with legal residence in Austria – has been detained by police after the attack in the city of Villach on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Rainer Dionisio said a motive was not immediately known and that police were investigating the alleged attacker’s personal background.

The victims were all men aged between 14 and and 32. Two were seriously injured in the attack, with the other two having sustained minor injuries.

“A man randomly attacked passers-by with a knife,” police spokesman Rainer Dionisio told AFP. Police said it wasn’t clear whether the suspect acted on his own and are continuing to search for potential further suspects.

Österreich makes the same observation that was my first thought. This is a paraphrase from the German.

The perpetrator is a Syrian citizen with a right of residence, his name is Ahmad G. I am taking the photograph of his grinning from the Daily Mail as that shows his full face.

In the photo, where the attacker is laughing after the crime, you can see how he shows the IS finger and thus Österreich interpret this, and I agree, as a confession of a terror or Islamic motive.  The newspaper continues with an explanation of the finger gesture, the so-called Tawhīd finger, which originated to symbolise the one nature of Allah. Which has since come to mean a rejection of democracy as unislamic and has been further adopted by ISIS as a sign of that group.

As further evidence of a islamic terror motive police spokesman Rainer Dionisio said there are indications that he shouted Allahu Akbar while committing the assaults. To me, that is definitive.
