As we search for clues on what the presidential candidates really think, rather than what they think we want them to think, let’s keep a lookout for a quality that Jimmy Breslin, the legendary newspaper columnist, found in a candidate in a presidential race many years ago: what he admired in him, he said, was the way he stood up for his ignorance.
