Don’t Cry for Me Middle America
Adapted from the Weber and Rice song, Don’t Cry for me, Argentina, made famous by Madonna
by Howard Rotberg
It won’t be easy
You think it’s strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
After all that you and I have done
You won’t believe me
All you will see
Is the businessman you once knew
Although I am now dressed up
In the American flag
And MAGA hat
Making peace through strength
I had to let it happen
I had to change
Couldn’t stay all my life a New York
Real estate tycoon
Now friend of working folks
Staying out of the Swamp
I chose the cause of freedom
I see what China and Iran really are
I see the elites at the public trough but they
Do nothing
to Impress me
At all
I never
Expected them to
Don’t cry for me, Middle America
The truth is
I never left you
Your liberty and Justice were my friends in
My mad existence
I kept my promises
Don’t keep your distance
And as for fortune
And as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed
To the world
They were all I desire
They are illusions
They’re not
The solutions they promise to be
The answer
Was here
All the time
I love you America
And put America first ahead of me
Don’t cry for me
America
Don’t cry for me, Middle America
The truth is
I never left you
All through your persecution
And attempted coups
I kept my promises
While the media gave you fake news
Have I said too much?
There’s nothing more
I can think of
To say to you
But, all you have to do
Is look at Melania and the kids to know
That every word
Is true!
