Dutch Hooligans Damage — Irreparably? — La Barcaccia

Story e

La Barcaccia — the boat in marble that never sinks, though it is always in danger of sinking, fluctuat nec mergitur, is the fountain, one of the most famous in the world, that is in the Piazza di Spagna, at the bottom of the Spanish Steps that lead up to Trinita dei Monti. Dutch hooligan-fans, I can’t remember if they were drunk with despair over loss or with joy over a win, damaged the fountain last week. They deserve to be jailed for a long time. And perhaps no more soccer fans, anywhere, should be allowed to roam free, to jump head-first into the shallow fountain at Trafalgar Square after a win, thus breaking their own necks, or to do something worse, as those Dutch savages did the other day in the Piazza di Spagna
