Good Friday – grape hyacinths

It is a very good year for the grape hyacinths, genus muscari, which in the United States are sometimes called bluebells (the European bluebells are different; other than both being blue) and sometimes blue bonnets. Except the pictures of blue bonnets in Wikipedia look to me more like the flower I know as Larkspur. Anyway even the bulbs I planted a few years ago in a tub at home are thriving and exuberant.

Our diocese allowed Parish churches to open for socially distanced private prayer today, even if the usual Walk of Witness to a joint service of all churches on a suitable open space was still proscribed.

These cheery and hopeful flowers covered a couple of old grey stone graves in the churchyard and were spreading up the path between. Coming out of church I had to be careful not to trample them underfoot.
