Green Park – Picnic for Brexit

After paying our respects in Tavistock Square a few of us decided to pop over to Green Park where there was a picnic organised in support of Brexit by the Spiked website to urge that Article 50 be invoked NOW! There was a similar picnic surrounding the Brexiteers from the Remainic faction. I don’t know which picnic was arranged first; however I was told that the remain faction had received 20,000 ‘likes – will attend’ on Facebook and about 200 people turned up. While the Brexit event had received 40 likes and 150 people turned up.

It was decided that we were to mingle and discuss why we had voted how we had, and how we felt. Some of the later arrivals for the remain side were quite assertive; however most of the people I spoke to were now prepared to listen. This was a definite change in attitude to that experienced during the Fisherman’s Flotila demonstration on the Thames before the vote. Some of this may have been that a different type of person attended the picnic; nicer people who were always more inclined to discuss and listen. Or is it that the vote to leave has shaken the chattering classes out of their comfortable complacancy that their superior wishes will always be acceded to? A little of both I suspect.

These are a few photographs to give you a flavour of the afternoon.

Below, a stout supporter from the Remain camp was marking Remainiacs hands – I don’t know what with – possibly ‘property of the EUSSR’.

These young men were finding that as chat-up lines go, t-shirts reading ‘We are immigrants looking for a hug’ was being mildly sucessful with a certain cadre of older women.

Then Remainiacs from the Downing Street demo turned up and the atmosphere got a little more heated. Baroness Thatcher has been out of power since 1990 and dead since 2013 but some remain supporters still blame everything we suffer on her. Seriously.

So the Brexiteers came and joined in.

And finally we were joined by the Irish dancing former priest who is a well known supporter of Israel and the Bible.

And then we went down the pub.
