I got up in the middle of the night as news came in US of Hamas terrorist war was breaking in Israel. 5,000 rockets were launched against civilian targets in Israel. 22 dead, 70 injured with more likely to come. Israelis on Gaza border were pleading for help with terrorists penetrating Israel. Israel PM Netayahu declares war on Hamas.
It looks like lsrael was caught on its back foot. Now we’ll see if Hezbollah weighs in the north.
The attack comes on cusp of 50th anniversary of devastating Yom Kippur war. Hamas and Islamic Jihad forces inside Israel is a shock. It looks like massive intelligence failure in midst of internal dissension over Judicial reform. Very bad, especially in light of Saudi normalization.
The massive terrorist war raises serious questions about Israel ability to provide nuclear umbrella for region against Iran.
This will be a costly war for Israeli civilians and Tzahal which may require ground invasion of Gaza and lockdown of West Bank as PA security infiltrated by Iran backed Islamic Jihad and Hamas.
Ironic as the surprise attack occurs on eighth day of Sukkot, Shemini Atzerat and Simcha Torah. No hakavot tonight in Israel. Dancing with torahs may not occur, while reserves are called up and rushed in for counter-attack.
Israel deserves our prayers and concerns for safety. There is no joy when lives are at stack in combatting a heinous enemy internal attack in Israel.
