   A lute would certainly classify as a ‘stringed instrument’. Presumably these evil – and entirely, purely orthodox, obeying-the-hadith-to-the-letter – Mohammedan music-haters decided that a keyboard also fitted the bill.

   There is something horrible, truly antihuman about a belief system that attacks music and musicians…ALL music and musicians.

   And I am reminded of those other grimly, purely orthodox Muslims in Mali who proclaimed that they were in a Jihad “against all the musicians of the world”.

   Question: when they have killed every musician and smashed every musical instrument, will they then start in on the singing birds and the singing frogs and the singing cicadas and everything else in the entire planet that makes a sweetly pleasing sound? Will they try to root up the grass and cut down all the trees so as to silence the sound of the wind blowing through them? Will they dry up all the streams so that the tinkle of falling water may no longer be heard?

   Islam: hell on earth, where the only sound allowed to be heard is the screaming of the terrified and tormented victims, the howlings of rage. the gibbering of the demented and the grunting of the rapist.
