Kurdish Hopes And Dreams

Here.

The existence of an independent Kurdistan, likely to be established in what is now northern Iraq, would encourage Kurds elsewhere to seek inclusion, whether those Kurds live in Syria, Iraq, Iran, or Turkey. Kurdish nationalism plays against Islam, for its worst enemies have been other Muslims, and especially the Arabs, whose own ethnic identity does not dilute but strengthens identification with, and support for, Islam.

An independent Kurdistan, then, spells trouble for those four countries — Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey — as  a source of constant anxiety and unrest. That is a desirable outcome.
