Laurence Fox comes 6th in London Mayoral election

The headlines are all about the much closer contest between Labour’s Sadiq Khan who (quelle surprise) was re-elected and the Conservative Shaun Bailey who was ahead for a time until the Labour stronghold votes were produced. Khan’s majority is much reduced, and his retaining the post is about the only good major result for Labour in England. Much as I dislike Labour I also have strong reservations about aspects of the Conservative party and it isn’t good for a nation to have no effective national opposition.

The Mail is crowing (a little too much) that he lost his deposit. 

Laurence Fox has lost his £10,000 deposit for his bid to be London Mayor after getting 1.8 per cent of the vote. . . Candidates need five per cent of first-preference votes to get back their deposits, which only three candidates surpassed: Sadiq Khan, Shaun Bailey and the Green’s Sian Berry.

He came ahead of Piers Corbyn (brother of Jeremy), the Women’s Equality Party (I wouldn’t have touched them with a barge pole myself because of their failure to stick up for women’s safe spaces, and the abused girls of the Musim rape gangs, but I didn’t see anybody scoffing at them maliciously either) UKIP, and numerous other independents. 20 candidates in total. Not far behind him was this season’s novelty candidate Count Binface, who wasn’t really an impressive successor to the late Screaming Lord Sutch and his Monster Raving Looney party.  

I’d be interested later in the week to examine the breakdown of voting by borough. I don’t know what will happen next but we are alert and awake to “woke” and the nonsense. It’s an uphill battle though.
