Man arrested at Southend Airport on suspicion of terrorism offences

A man has been arrested at Southend Airport on suspicion of preparation of acts to commit terrorism.
The 49-year-old man was stopped by officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on Tuesday (August 1).
He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of preparation of acts to commit terrorism, under section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Officers also carried out a search at an address in Essex, which is now complete. Enquiries continue.
The man is in custory at a South London Police station.
