It has taken long enough. Her tweets first caused concern in 2021 and she has been suspended under investigation since 2022. I bet on full pay aswell. Anyway – she’s gone now, but English women are in prison for saying less. From the Telegraph.
A Metropolitan Police officer who used the term “dirty Zionists” on social media to refer to Jewish people has been sacked after being found guilty of gross misconduct.
Pc Ruby Begum admitted during a police misconduct hearing that she used discriminatory language against Jewish people and non-Muslims while serving as a special constable.
The 29-year-old also admitted using the term “kuffar” to refer to non-believers, using a shortened version of “Pakistani”, and making controversial comments about 9/11.
To wit – “writing in July 2014: ‘Kuffar lips have been all over my mug there is no way I’m using that thing again.’
Around 25,000 posts were made on X, formerly Twitter, between 2013 and 2019 under the username @ruby-beee, the hearing was told.
Ms Begum had denied gross misconduct and said her comments – which she agreed could be deemed discriminatory – amounted to simple misconduct and a final warning would be sufficient.
But the panel said it found her posts “appalling”, “derogatory” and “abusive”, told the defendant her actions amounted to gross misconduct and dismissed her without notice.
Evis Samupfonda, the chairman, said: “[The posts] are derogatory and abusive, and also show a lack of tolerance for others who do not share the same characteristics as Ms Begum. It falls far below the standard of professional behaviour for police officers. Misconduct would not be far enough. [The tweets] are racist, discriminatory and intolerant. The panel’s decision is gross misconduct.”
Ms Begum gained widespread recognition in 2020 after a photo of her facing down anti-lockdown protesters in London went viral.
But in 2021, the Mail on Sunday newspaper revealed her controversial posts on Twitter. These included a series of derogatory posts about Jewish people, saying: “Dirty Zionists. Hell is waiting” and “Zionists have no heart”.
the panel said it rejected her claims of immaturity as “she was an adult and a serving police officer”.
It also said Ms Begum underwent two rounds of equality and diversity training, once in 2014 when joining as a special constable and again in 2016 when becoming a full-time police constable.
If the tribunal looked at her connection with the Syrian jihadist ISIS supporter it isn’t mentioned. I would hope that the Metropolitan Police Counter Terrorism Command have had a look at her. I’m sure she’ll find a nice second career somewhere – Channel 4 maybe.
