Mr. Hijazi, Second In His Class

Here.

This Mr. Hijazi– Shami Hijazi — is not to be confused with another Hijazi, Raed Hijazi, who worked for a while in the late 1990s as a cab-driver in Cambridge, Mass., and then, as an Al-Qaeda member, went off to Jordan where, some months after the 9/11 attacks, he was arrested for planning to blow up Westerners staying in Jordanian hotels. At the time of his arrest Raed Hijazi, the former cab-driver, was still owed some money by one of his customers, who had been short of cash when the taxi reached his destination and, having misplaced the card on which Raed Hijazi had written his address, and forgotten the number that he thought he would certainly remember anyway, was unable to mail to that Mr. Hijazi the remaining sum he felt he owed him –both part of the fare and thede rigueur tip. Considering all the circumstances, I’m sure you’ll agree that rider may be forgiven his ordinarily unforgiveable forgetfulness.
