Muslim Immigration To The West
Each day brings fresh and dismal news about the immigrant assault on Europe from North Africa and the Middle East. Some arrive from the south, by rickety boats that set sail from Libya for Lampedusa, the Italian island closest to Africa, where the immigrants from North and sub-Saharan Africa, many of them Muslim, are held for processing — and occasionally they break free of their guards, while other immigrants manage to avoid ever being picked up and make their way to Europe even without stopping at Lampedusa .
Those who come by boat from the south are not the only new arrivals to Europe. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims have left devastated Syria and, as “Syrians” (the Europeans failing to distinguish Muslim Syrians from Christians or such other desperate and tormented victims of Muslim Arabs as the Yazidis); some of these “Syrians” are not even from Syria, but come from Iraq, or other Muslim states. Europeans find it difficult to disentangle what seems to be an undifferentiated mass of Muslims Arabs, hellbent on settling wherever the living is made easiest for them by the generous welfare states of Western Europe. Along with the sea route, Syrians, Iraqis, Afghanis, Pakistanis, that is Muslim immigrants take the land route. By sea or by land, The immigration problem in Europe is one of Muslim immigration. In Germany alone. Angela Merkel appears to be willing to allow in as many as a million and a half such “refugees” — this is cause for astonishment and alarm. To the millions of Muslims now in Western Europe, who outbreed the natives (in France, in Italy, in Germany, the indigenous population does not reproduce itself) further fresh millions are now being added. We don’t know the exact numbers, but it is already certain that large numbers of people, tugging at the heartstrings of public opinion (photographs of suffering children will do the trick), will be allowed in, carrying with them, undeclared in their mental baggage, Islam Islam Islam) We know or can imagine the consequences: an increase in the domestic crime rate, problems in the smooth functioning of public schools, challenges to cultural coherence, greater insecurityin the general tenor of life. The German banker Theo Sarrazin spelled out what Muslim immigration was doing to Germany in his celebrated “Germany Undoes Itself,” a book that Merkel has chosen not to heed. She may be haunted by the natural desire to distinguish her Germany from the ghost of the Third-Reich, may be eager to distinguish a new, hyper-tolerant Germany, one choosing to make amends for past crimes against Jews by its present suicidal “tolerance” or acceptance, with no questions asked, for the very people who now make life most unpleasant and dangerous for Europe’s Jews today — that is, Muslim immigrants.
The failure, on both sides of the Atlantic, of the poliitcal and media elites, to discuss fully the changes already wrought, or likely to be wrought, by this large-scale Muslim presence no longer surprises but it still disheartens. The Democrats have remained silent. A few of the Republicans have spoken out, daring to suggest that it is reasonable to query the contents of Islam; Ben Carson has been most outspoken .And there are those in the press and on television who stand out as well for being unwilling to give Islam a pass — people as various as Bill Maher and Ayaan Hirsi Ali in this country, and the Figaro journalist Ivan Rioufol in France — their presence being
Muslim birthrates everywhere in Western Europe far surpass those of non-Muslim immigrants and natives; indeed, Muslim birthrates in the Middle East and North Africa continue to create a pool of unemployed and disaffected youth who will not give up the attempt to enter and settle within the lands of Western Christendom (as many Muslims still think of Europe), and to become the beneficiaries of what they viewa kind of updated jizyah, which is how they think of the multitudinous benefits (health, education, housing) offered to them by the welfare states of the Infidel West, and to justify, as well, whatever they help themselves to through crime, that is property seized from the Infidels as a kind of proleptic jizyah.
It would be good, in this season of political jostling by would-be candidates, to have a series of questions about immigration — making clear the special problem of Muslim immigration to the West.– itraised publicly.
To wit:
1. If uncurbed illegal immigration from south of the border can be considered to threaten this country’s cultural coherence and wellbeing, what can or should be said about Muslim immigrants and their likely long-term effect? Can that effect be properly understood without full-throated discussion of what Islam inculcates? Doesn’t the public at this point deserve an explanation of what it is, in Qur’an, Hadith and Sira, that explains Muslim attitudes and acts toward those they regard as Infidels?
2. Does it make sense to worry equally about non-Muslim and Muslim immigration, or are there important reasons for finding the latter much more threatening?
3. Does the idea of the West still move those who make high policy in Washington? Is the politico-cultural link between America and Europe — the two wings of the West– once taken for granted by our elites, still sufficient to cause American policy-makers to worry about what the growing Muslim presence and power in Europe might mean for the United States? Who are the political figures who will speak openly about such matters, unafraid to be immediately maligned as “bigots” for the sin of discussing Islam? Think of the possible future disruption of old alliances, of possible constraints on NATO, of, a weakening of American solidarity with Europe if the former insists United States. And how likely is it that demography will turn out not to be destiny, or that the Muslims now being admitted by the millions into Europe will cease to embrace Islam and, instead, join an army of apostates?
It has been 14 years since the 9/11 attacks, filled with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the intervention in Libya, and the limited intervention in Syria– fourteen years in which the civilized world has endured a steady stream of Muslim warfare, attacks, “refugees” arriving in Europe. Thousands of books about the Muslim world’s distempers have appeared. Isn’t fourteen years more than enough time for those in the American government — in the American political class, and in its media –that is, for all those who presume to protect and instruct the public, to have read just a bit, learned just a bit, about Islam (it’s not an arcane subjece — more than a billion people know all about it), and to discuss calmly, without fear, the consequences of large-scale Muslim immigration, not only for Western Europe, but for America as well.Wouldn’t such a discussion be useful?
