Muslim Leaders And Spokesmen Offer Nothing At All If They Don’t Discuss Asma Bint Marwan And Abu ‘Afak And Ka’b Bin Al-Ashraf
Or rather, here’s the almost-nothing they offer: the Muslim Council of France suggests that Muslims observe the one-minute-of-silence today (which means do it if you are near non-Muslims to make sure you get credit) and imams are supposed to denounce “violence from whatever source” (why is that put there? why not just, what is relevant, “violence by Muslims who are conducting Jihad against non-Muslims”?).
That’s the best they can do. It means nothing. What they have to be asked to do, repeatedly and publicly, is to state that the killings of those who mocked Muhammad during his lifetime, such as Asma bint Marwan and Abu ‘Afak, and Ka’b bin Al-Ashraf are not to be emulated and repeated today, but to be deplored. If Muslims can’t do that, they have done nothing to prevent the repetition, by some who are applauded by hundreds of millions more, of what happened,, and not for the first time, yesterday at the offices of Charlie-Hebdo.
That’s it. Discuss openly what happened to those who mocked Muhammad in his lifetime, and why what happened to them cannot be repeated today. And any Muslim who tries to deflect attention from this is to be regarded with justifiable suspicion and hostility, whatever other fine words he offers up to a Western public.
