Not in London

Newsreel of the funeral of the Bibas family in Israel yesterday was very moving, to see the crowds respectfully lining the streets and the orange balloons for all the hostages, released, living and dead.

Public buildings all over the world were lit up in orange last night or recently.

Look at this tribute in Paris last night, and the Eiffel Tower was one among several buildings illuminated.

Berlin

New York, including the Empire State Building

I have found references and photographs of many cities including Rome; Los Angeles; Vaughan, Ontario; Belgrade; Rio de Janeiro;  Madrid: But not London, other than the Israeli Embassy.

And it’s not that I didn’t notice because I was busy at home; numerous people have said that London was noticible by our absence.

However we do have some lights in London. Last night our snivelling apology of a mayor, apologist for the grooming gangs was joined by the Pakistan High Commissioner and they turned on the Ramadan lights in London’s West End.

As somebody else said; it’s not either/or, we could easily have done both.

Susan Hall of the London Assembly will be formally asking why London did not pay tribute. Of course, not every London building is controlled by either the government or the Greater London Authority and thus could have used their own initiative. But encouragement or criticism from above will always have an effect.
