Nothing Doing: Iraqis Want American Air Support For Iranian-Led Attack On Tikrit

Apparently the Iranians are not enough — it’s that American air support that is needed. Too bad.The Iranians have their air force — let them bomb away, on Sunni Tikrit. And let the Sunni hatred be directed at them. Wasn’t it just the day before yesterday that a leader of the Shi’a militia, Hadi Al-Amiri,  was declaring how splendid the Iranians were, and how the Americans had “never” done a thing for Iraq’/s Shia — even though it was American troops that toppled Saddam, who had killed hundreds of thousands of Shi’a when they rose up, and was perfectly prepared to kill hundreds of thousands more, and then those Americans spent a total of two trillion dollars trying to help the peoples in Iraq, not the “Iraqi people,” have a reasonably stable, unified, prosperous country, a tall and in the end impossible order.

American and other coalition airplanes can and should be used to protect the non-Arab Kurds and the non-Muslim Christiians, both groups being particular targets of the Islamic State and both being grateful to the Americans. The Shi’a Arabs are not. And why, anywhere, help the troops of the Islamic Republic of Iran? Never, never, never, never, never.
