One of my dearest friends was a German actor and Wehrmacht veteran who died in 2008 at 96 years. An immeasurable absence in my life.

  1. I was in Germany in 1976 and did the same thing – calculating the ages of everyone I met – did he? was he?

    Today Merkel is trying to assuage the national guilt by national suicide.
