A Palestinian attacker killed two civilians and wounded two others in a stabbing spree in central Israel on Sunday before being shot dead by police, Israeli authorities said.
The stabbings took place during morning rush hour in the city of Holon, just outside Tel Aviv, in three different locations, including a petrol station, bus stop and park.
A man in his 70s and a woman, 66, were killed and two others have been rushed to hospital, medical officials said.
The attacker, identified by Israeli media as Amar Odeh, 34, from the West Bank city of Salfit, “was quickly neutralized by one of our officers at the scene and prevented him from carrying out an even worse attack,” police spokesperson Eli Levi said on Israel’s Channel 12.
Isaac Herzog, Israel’s president, told the country he grieves with them over the stabbing attack near Tel Aviv, that left two dead, as warned told the world “not to turn a blind eye” at Israel’s suffering.
In a statement on X, he wrote: “On this difficult morning, which brought such tragic news, I grieve, along with the entire nation, for the innocent victims of the terrible attack in Holon. I send my deepest sympathies to the bereaved families whose world has been shattered this morning, and I pray for the swift recovery of the wounded. The world cannot turn a blind eye as our enemies attack us repeatedly with hate-filled terrorism, targeting innocent Israeli civilians whose only “crime” was wishing to live as a free people in their own land.”
