Pro-Palestinian violence on the streets of London
There was another pro-Palestinian demonstration in Whitehall opposite Downing Street tonight. As rockets rain down on Israel from Gaza sent by the poor Palestinians, other Palestinians, Arabs and their allies in London, in particular the Stop the War Coalition and Friends of Al Aqsa protest about, however they want to spin their aggression. Oh and they want to Save Sheik Jarrah and Jerusalem.
My friend Cliff Dixon was there with some of the Jewish organisations countering the lies. These are some of his photographs. If he writes a longer, more detailed report in the morning I will link it for you.
Cliff commented “On Whitehall. Pro Hamas protesters out in force, not going unchallenged”
Zarah Sultana MP for Coventry South spoke; Jeremy Corbyn and the General Secretary of the National Education Union were expected but I have no confirmation that they actually turned up. I would imagine that the GS of the main teaching union has a lot to occupy him at the moment. A teacher from Batley in hiding, fearful for his livf for teaching Civics and RE. Others in Batley and Sheffield facing calls for their sacking for the same thing. Most of our children having lost a year’s schooling, facing a second year of assessments by their teachers rather than a public exam. There’s a lot more for him to worry about than a sheik in Jerusalem.
A banner of peace was rolled out.
It was met with verbal abuse, then the pen was surrounded and the missiles started
See left, such a missile. Looks to me like a piece of builder’s rubble.
Cliff then posted a video which I cannot embed, but the link is here.
The last thing Cliff wrote was ” The mood started to turn very ugly just after these videos were taken. Eggs, rocks and bottles were thrown and the Police line charged. They took the decision to get us out of there, locking arms to try and hold the pro Arab protesters back. I was fortunate to have the bag with the banner in held against me to my left as I was lunged at from the stairs next to the pen, the motion felt like an attempted stabbing and I also took a couple of glancing blows to the back of the head. Full marks to the Police today, they were absolutely brilliant in shielding us off and then holding the line behind at considerable risk to themselves”
A similar event in Blackburn also attracted the tender care of the local MP. I have just spoken to Cliff; he continues to praise the police for their handling of one of the most aggressive mobs he has ever encountered. He will be writing more tomorrow.
Update – Jeremy Corbyn was present and spoke. The Daily Mail has pictures (two left) of the violence here.
