Seeing God

“You can put this another way by saying that while in the other sciences the instruments you use are things external to yourself (things like microscopes and telescopes), the instrument through which you see God is your whole self. And if a man’s self is not kept clean and bright, his glimpse of God will be blurred – like the moon seen through a dirty telescope. That is why horrible nations have horrible religions: they have been looking at God through a dirty lens” — C.S. Lewis

The lens through which Muslims see God is the prophet Mohammed. Could you ever have chosen a dirtier lens to see the Deity? Mohammed as he moved from Mecca to Medina went terribly astray. The Mohammed of Mecca said, “There is no compulsion in religion.” The Mohammed of Medina screamed “Kill the infidels!”

As Mohammed trekked the 275 miles from Mecca to Medina he changed from an inane preacher to a maniacal monster. He became a terrorist and a warlord with a political, instead of a spiritual, agenda. Through fear and intimidation he converted hundreds of thousands in Arabia. And at his death there was no one left alive to oppose his bloody ideology.

Allah was the god created by the depraved, warped mind of Mohammed. Mohammed created god in his own image. And what a god he created. As C.S. Lewis so astutely pointed out Allah is what you get when you view God through the dirty lens of Mohammed. Mohammed, according to the Koran, the Hadiths and the Sira (not my opinions, but directly from the sacred literature of Islam), was a rapist, a terrorist, a slaver, a misogynist, a killer, a pedophile and a necrophiliac. He was also according to Islam the perfect man. All Muslims are taught that he should be emulated. Is it any wonder that Islam is the bloodiest of the world’s religions?

What a terrible lens through which to view God.
