Shabbat Balak Shalom

Balaam and the Angel by Gustav Jaeger

by Phyllis Chesler

And here we have another parsha which proudly bears a non-Jew’s name—actually, an enemy’s name but one who whose emissary blesses, not curses us: “How goodly are your tents, Ya’akov, your dwelling places Yisrael (“Ma-Tovu ohelecha Ya’akov, mishconotechah Yisroel.” (12:5)

There might be much more to say—but I am suffering from a strain of the latest variant of the Chinese plague. A real farshlepta krenk. Avoid this as best you can.

A great Shabbos Shalom.
