Six people could have UK visas revoked because of anti-Semitic behaviour

At least half a dozen foreign nationals could have their visas revoked for anti-Semitic behaviour or comments in the wake of the Hamas terror attack on Israel, The Telegraph understands.

Home Office officials have or are about to write to them telling them the Government is minded to revoke their visas to stay in the UK because of their anti-Semitism.

They will be able to lodge objections before a decision is made within the next few days whether to go ahead with their expulsion on grounds that their behaviour is “not conducive to the public good” or that they are a threat to national security.

The move is understood to have been made before Robert Jenrick, the Immigration Minister, wrote last week to all 43 police forces in England and Wales to ask them to report any foreign individuals caught up in any potential unlawful or extremist activities for their right to stay in the UK to be reviewed.

“Have no doubt about the Home Secretary’s and my determination that people who spread hate in our country have no right to be here,” Mr Jenrick told BBC Radio 4.

Speaking on Times Radio, he added: “We believe in freedom of speech, but I disagree with your premise that somebody who is here as a visitor to the UK has the right to be anti-Semitic, to threaten British communities and can stay unless that is of criminal standard. I think there is conduct which is below the criminal standard, which is wrong, would be accepted as wrong by most reasonable people. And if those people are not British citizens, they’re just visitors to our country enjoying the privileges of living here, being amongst fellow British people, then I’m afraid their visas will be revoked and they should leave the country. . . ”

Ministers already have the powers to revoke visas to work, live or study in the UK if the individuals are judged “not conducive to the public good” or a threat to national security. However, they have largely been restricted to taking action against hate preachers.

The headline (6, up from 4 when it was first published half an hour ago) says ‘warned’; I want to hear that they have gone. I also want a few noughts on the end of the ‘6’.
