Terror arrests around Northern England

A man was arrested today on terror charges after a series of dawn raids in Merseyside. The North West counter-terrorism unit said the 31-year-old man was held on suspicion of “being concerned in the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”.
Five addresses were being searched this morning – two in Holt Road, Kensington, two in Prescot Road, Kensington and one in Rainhill, St Helens.
The searches are expected to last several hours and possibly days. Counter-terrorism police refused to elaborate on the nature of the alleged terror plot.
Two women from the Black Country have been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences. A 23-year-old from Walsall is suspected of preparing for acts of terrorism, while a 33-year-old woman, also from Walsall, has been held on suspicion of failing to disclose information.
Both were detained at their home addresses this morning by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit. They are currently being held at a police station in the area.
