In Algeria, before the Arab invasion and conquest in the seventh century, the population was almost entirely Berber, and along with those who followed traditional Berber religious practices, a considerable Christian population (St. Augustine, he of Hippo, was a Berber) flourished. When the Arabs swept in, subjugating the Berbers, they brought with them an Islam that replaced Christianity. Even after many Berbers converted, they were treated by the Arabs as second-class Muslims, heavily taxed, and even enslaved. Thanks Hugh for your excellent article on the Tamazigh of Algeria and the larger Maghreb. Indeed many are converting to Christianity as Ibn Warraq showed in the February 2016 issue of NER.
Chaque jour, je lis Riposte Laic and constate que parmi les ecrivains, il y a des Berbers qui n'ont pas peur de dire la verite sur l'Islam.
This is a hopeful strategy. If only our hare-brained "leaders" would act smarter, these ideas could be very helpful in the downfall of Islam.
