Whenever I went to Yankee Stadium more than a decade ago, I would advise those beside me to listen appreciatively to Bob Sheppard, the Stadium’s legendary public address announcer. His most extraordinary talent was not just enunciating every syllable clearly but speaking so patiently, pausing after every phrase, typically repeating uniform numbers both before and after announcing a player’s name. more>>>

A great pleasure to read, and, as a lifelong Yankee fan, to be have my memory prompted — especially memories of late-night baseball from the West Coast broadcast over radio. I would nominate Frank Messer as the best radio man, not in Yankee broadcast history but in all history. Too bad he’s largely forgotten. Thanks for this.
