A comment not so much on the Andalusian Paradise but the Vandal laws of the pre-Islamic days. One that seems very relevant today, the argument about sharia, was firmly settled 15oo years ago. Only the laws of the King shall apply in the Kingdom, any judge that dare uses any other law shall forfeit his position and be subject to a massive fine.
This book is a tour de force of historical scholarship. One of the most important reads in history. It will not be reie well by the orthodox media and academic establishment who have to protect their narrative.
The initial policy of toleration was not due to some enlightened view of the Islamic rulers but as Dr. Fernández-Morera points out it was a strategic policy to provide a barrier to the Christian majority. Once that majority was no longer a potential threat Jews got the mistreatment by Islam.
