The True Soldier

“The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him but because he loves what is behind him.” – G.K. Chesterton

We are in the midst of an epic struggle between Western civilization and the cruelty of Islamic barbarism. Islam has not changed one whit since the Seventh Century A.D. In fact, a good case can be made that we are in a period of militant Islamic resurgence. As Winston Churchill pointed out over a century ago Islam is the greatest retrograde force on the planet. Islam, with its subjugation of women and dhimmis, its cruel application of Sharia Law, and its unyielding ferocity stands in stark contrast to the compassion of the Judeo-Christian tradition.

True soldiers cannot be compelled to fight through the threat of punishment. Ultimately, men cannot even be paid to fight. All true leaders know that they must lead from the front. They must ask and demonstrate the dictum of “Follow me!”  Leadership is always by example. That means simply leaders must share the dangers of their followers. They must lead their friends into battles, both real and metaphorical. We must always act bravely, even though we are frightened. Appearance is everything in battle.

Read every great battle speech ever given. You will see time after time references made to everything we hold dear. Our families, our faith, our free speech, and our system of laws and the U.S. Constitution. These are the things that stand behind us. These are the very values we love.

We must act now to safeguard the future of our world. The outcome of this titanic struggle can only end in one of two ways. Either Islam will triumph and bring with it hundreds of years of impenetrable darkness. Or, we (the West) will carry the day through our heroic persistence as we will hurl back into the abyss the black flag of Jihad and its hordes. Once again the world will move into the bright sunlight of kindness and compassion.

All of us have an inescapable choice to make. History has given us the great privilege of saving our civilization and decisively defeating the evil of radical Islam. No one has the luxury of avoiding this decision. Everyone in the West must stand up! Stand up for what is right and good and moral. Be brave and not cowardly! Be a true soldier loving what stands behind you. Protect decency, goodness, women, children, our Judeo-Christian values and our freedom. And then when your dying day comes, as it will for all of us, you can hear the words, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” The noble cause of human freedom is worth our dying.

“Great love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” John 15:13
