The Saudi cleric justifies the ban on female drivers by noting that in America, women drivers expect to be raped, and that’s okay, because it reflects American decadence. But Saudis, the most Muslim and therefore the most moral of peoples, won’t allow women to be out on the road, driving, precisely because, given what beasts men are, they would, if not accompanied by a male driver, almost certainly be raped.
The story is nothing new. What is new is that it appears today on MSN News. And the most important detail in the story — here –– is one I leave up to you to discover, and to post on in the comments section.

I give up, Hugh, what is it? reference to MEMRI?
I’d say it’s the reference to – and therefore free publicity for – MEMRI.
I’d love to know how many punters who read that news story proceeded at once – never having done so before – to google “MEMRI”. And then began to browse…and browsed some more…and then sat there just staring at the screen, shocked and horrified.
I’d also like to know just how many journalists are beginning to surreptitiously dial up MEMRI, every now and again.
