Tom Bawcock’s Eve

By Esmerelda Weatherwax

In the fishing village of Mousehole Cornwall, today 23rd December, is Tom Bawcock’s Eve.  Tom Bawcock is legendary; one suggestion is that he was 16th century, another that the story is an update on an ancient, pre-Christian myth of hardship, plenty and suchlike around the solstice.

I have posted about it before. But it’s worth repeating; indulge me. It was retold in one of my favourite children’s books, and made into one of my favourite children’s videos. Which is above. Enjoy.
