Why God’s Chosen People Israel are in a Civilizational War with Islamic Extremists Hamas and Iran?

On Monday evening, April 8, 2024, Jerry Gordon, a Senior Editor of the New English Review made a presentation at the Parkside Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.  He had been invited by Parsons David Slominski, leader of a national Baptist Israel support group, and Parkside Pastor, William Chancery.  Mr. Gordon had met Pastor Slominski at a chance encounter at B’nai Israel Synagogue in Pensacola that subsequently led to an invitation to present on one of their dates set for a program in support of Israel.

This outreach occurred in the wake of the barbarous October 7^th, 2023 that erupted in what is now a six-month war in Gaza. More than 1,800 Israeli civilians and military have been killed and more than 3,700 injured in the conflict.  Over 100,000 Israelis were evacuated from both the southern and the vulnerable northern border with Iran-backed Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon. A war pitting the IDF against the Islamic extremist groups Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad with the twin objectives of destroying both groups and freeing the remnant of 130 Israeli hostages ranging in age from 14 months to 85 years of age. A war that now finds Israel at loggerheads with the Biden Administration and Western allies over the looming assault on Rafah in Gaza, where 1.5 million Palestinians are at risk of shielding the four remaining four Hamas fighting battalions and leaders Yahya Sinwar and Mohammed Deif who are lurking in the Metro honeycomb of tunnels.

The Biden Administration is more concerned with domestic criticism in leftist and domestic Muslim advocacy groups of support for Israel.  Their demands for an immediate cease-fire and evacuation of IDF forces are impacting a tight 2024 Presidential Race.  Domestic and international media have drawn attention to the questionable civilian Palestinian toll in Israel’s War with Hamas and the PIJ, the alleged lack of humanitarian assistance, and the accidental killing of several international members of World Center Kitchen staff.

What was impressive about the attendees at the Parkside Church Presentation was their unwavering support for Israel based on biblical principles and Judeo–Christian values. Two standouts among those attending were the brilliant preaching by a former member of the US military stressing the morality of Israel’s battle against “pure evil”- Hamas and the PIJ -and pressing on to victory and release of the suffering remnant of hostages.

The other was a chance encounter with a US Navy Seal retiree who was in Lebanon during Israel’s first Lebanon war against Yassir Arafat and the PLO with the horrific bombing of the US Marine and French Paratrooper Barracks, US Embassy and Shatila Sabra refugee Camp massacre. He had been stationed at a military base in Israel following that period.   He also revealed his participation in the special operations to destroy the “super” gun developed by Canadian HARP ballistic expert Dr. Gerald Bull for the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in Project Babylon. The team of six special operators for the mission he recalled was drawn from the US, NATO allies, and Israel. It was successful in destroying the so-called “space gun.” Dr. Bull was allegedly assassinated by Mossad in 1991 in Brussels, Belgium.

The presentation at Parkside Baptist Church started with the US and Israel National Anthems. The Parkside Church audience was attentive when we showed them our recent “Israel Alone” discussion with colleague General Adams. The questions they posed were thoughtful and indicative of what they represent- the marrow of American Christian supporters of Israel.  Following, the presentation, the discussion continued during the collation prepared by the church members with both Pastors Slominski and Chancery and the regional director of outreach to the Ukrainian and Russian émigré communities.

Background of General John Adams and Jerry Gordon

John Adams retired as a Brigadier General from the U.S. Army in September 2007, after more than 30 years of active-duty service. His final military assignment was Deputy United States Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee in Belgium. John is a veteran of Operation Desert Storm (1991), where he earned the Bronze Star Medal, of Operation Guardian Assistance in Rwanda (1996), and served throughout the Balkans from 1998-2003. He served as a military attaché with the U.S. Embassies in South Korea, Croatia, Belgium, and Rwanda. In 2004, he served on temporary duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. He was deployed outside the United States for eighteen of his thirty years of active-duty service, including duty in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. He was stationed at the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, and participated in disaster recovery operations at the crash site. During the past five years, he has participated in unofficial fact-finding missions in Israel, Egypt, Turkey, the Balkans, and Cuba. He has close business relationships with retired officers of the Israeli Defense Forces, several NATO Allies, and is a strong supporter of the U.S. alliance with the State of Israel and NATO. Mr. Jerome B. Gordon has been a producer and co-host for local, national, and international radio and online interview discussion programs on security issues impacting the US and its ally, Israel. Since 2007, Mr. Gordon has been Senior Vice President of the World Encounter Institute and a Senior Editor at The New English Review- a journal of cultural and political commentary. He has authored several books and a large body of articles and blog posts. Among the national and regional boards, he has served are the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and the American Jewish Committee in New York and Connecticut. His business career included senior positions in several Wall Street and international investment banking firms in both the US and Canada. He was involved in the completion of private and public financings, mergers, and acquisitions in property and casualty insurance, international shipping, and radio broadcasting networks. He earned a B.A. in Economics from Boston University and an MBA in Finance from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business. An ROTC Commissioned Officer, he served during the Vietnam War Era as a US Army Intelligence Officer achieving the rank of Captain on being honorably discharged.
