Yorkshire Ripper turns to Islam: Muslim inmates to protect Sutcliffe behind bars

Now I’m not averse to even the foulest murderer (as the old hymn goes) repenting his sins and seeking the mercy of Christ upon a sinner. But this isn’t the same thing at all. Any younger readers, or those from outside the UK will need to know that, as his nickname suggests, Peter Sutcliff was convicted of murdering thirteen women and attempting to murder seven others in Northern England over a 15 year period. Not all of them were prostitutes. He was probably responsible for even more, over a wider area and longer period. After conviction in 1981 he has served most of his time until recently in Broadmoor the prison mental hospital; he was transfered to mainsteam prison earlier this year.

Serial killer Peter Sutcliffe has already had death threats since he moved to HMP Frankland. And now Muslim gang members have offered to take him under their wing – but only if he converts to Islam…Sources informed the Daily Star Sunday that Sutcliffe has faced daily threats to his life since arriving at the Durham jail.

Frankland Prison is regarded as one of the toughest in Britain. It is home to serial killers and some of the country’s most violent offenders. Four years ago, child rapist Mitchell Harrison, 23, was disembowelled by two lags inside the jail. Prisoners have told Sutcliffe the same fate awaits him.

It is understood he was approached by a member of an Asian gang while being escorted back to his cell.

One Muslim inmate told Sutcliffe he was a marked man in prison and would be dead within a month unless he had friends to protect him. It is understood that the gang has arranged for Sutcliffe to have a meeting with a prison imam – a Muslim cleric – in the next few weeks. The same gang also befriended serial killer Levi Bellfield (Bellfield is a member of the travelling community, what might be called a gypsy, although true Romanys might not agree)  48, who converted to Islam while doing time in another jail. He is now known as Yusuf Rahim.

A source said: “HMP Frankland is ruled by gangs and you are either in a white gang, black gang or Asian gang. If you are a child killer, rapist or a mass murderer, the only gang who are going to let you in are the Muslims but you have to convert to Islam.”
